Features to Look for When Buying an Oven

17 2

Buying a new oven requires some forethought. When it’s time to make a new purchase, there are several key features to look for in an oven.

The oven you decide on will depend on a number of key factors, such as how much space you have, what kind of cooking you typically do, along with your preference for electric or gas, and of course, your budget.

In this article, we’ll outline the key features to look for in an oven so that you can narrow your search and make a buying decision faster.

What do you typically cook?

One of the key features to look for in an oven is whether or not the oven meets your cooking and lifestyle needs.

Start by asking yourself how often you use your current oven. Are you constantly frustrated because you don’t have enough burners or space in your oven to cook for your large family? Or do you typically just use your oven to heat up frozen food?

Maybe your stovetop gets a lot more use than your actual oven? If this is the case, you’ll want to focus more of your efforts on finding the perfect stovetop and go with a standard oven.

Gas or electric oven?

Another key feature to look for in an oven is whether or not it’s gas or electric. Normally this decision will be based on what wiring your home is equipped with.

It’s important to note that if you buy the wrong kind of oven for your kitchen setup you’ll have to spend extra money getting the connection converted. Most modern homes have an electric oven connection.

How much space do you have?

Most standard-sized ovens in Australia are 60cm wide or 90cm wide. You’ll need to check how much space you have for your new oven in your kitchen before you begin your search.

There’s no use buying a 90 cm oven if you’ve only got 60 cm of space in your kitchen. Unless of course, you’re planning on doing renovations to make space for a bigger oven.

What kind of stovetop?

Another key feature to look for in an oven is the kind of stovetop you’ll match with it. You can choose from electric, induction, and gas cooktops. Consider how many burners you’ll need and what sizes when making your choice.

Convection heating

Convection heating is a top feature to look for in an oven. Convection heating uses a fan to circulate hot air around your oven to cook your food. Convection heating is great because it saves time on cooking and money off your power bill.

Glass doors

Glass doors are another great feature to look for in an oven. It’s important to monitor your food as it cooks but you should avoid opening your oven door and letting the hot air out. Glass doors on your oven will rectify this problem, allowing you to keep an eye on your food while it cooks.
