Company History
The company got its start nearly six decades ago in 1961 when Gerry Harvey and Ian Norman opened their first-ever store. The duo had originally met when they were both working as door-to-door salesmen trying to sell vacuum cleaners to Australian households.
In the two decades that followed, the company — known as Norman Ross at the time — became one of the largest appliance retail chains in the country. It was then acquired by Alan Bond in 1982. Harvey and Norman were both promptly fired due to disagreements with Bond.
The same year of their sacking, the first Harvey Norman store was opened. The Sydney location provided prime real estate for the empire to grow. Bond, in contrast, hadn’t been doing so well and Norman Ross went into liquidation only a decade later.
Today, the multinational retailer brings in billions of dollars in annual revenue making it a true giant in the consumer electronics industry. The large name has a wide variety of stovetops to choose from, but are they the ideal pick for you?
